AthHalf begins on Clayton Street near College Square and takes off to an exciting start with a parade of downtown Athens. The course offers a flat, flying start with a jaunt out Prince Avenue. Next is our traditional romp through the historic neighborhood of Cobbham. This neighborhood gears up for the race greeting runners with music, signs and lots of excited spectators.
As they leave Cobbham, runners turn on to Milledge Avenue for a downhill sprint to Five Points, passing historic sorority houses and the famous Varsity at mile three. As they enter Five Points runners turn on to Lumpkin Street at the fire station, where they will get a glimpse of the neighborhood’s village-like atmosphere. Spectators like to gather here to cheer runners along as they sip their early morning coffee.
Following south Lumpkin out of Five Points, the race heads down hill to a sharp left on to Gran Ellen in to the wooded and picturesque Memorial Park. Here runners approach their first hill which will carry them back up to Milledge Avenue, passing the Athens Zoo on the way. At the 10k mark, runners turn back on to Milledge at Milledge Avenue Baptist, the famous pumpkin patch church. From Milledge runners turn on to Riverbend Road and approach the UGA golf course, past the pecan grove and finally take a heart stopping drop down a steep incline to College Station Road.
Finally is the breathtaking view as runners cross the famous Sanford Bridge then a right turn on Hooper Street, a quick left on East Campus Road with another left for a quick sprint up Baldwin, down Lumpkin and then turn towards a victory lap of Sanford Stadium. Runners will finish in the Tate Center parking lot offering a rock and roll race finish unlike any other in the southeast.
